VocalSTRAW is a newest product from TheraSIP. Based on research by the pioneering work of voice scientist, Ingo Titze, voicing through straws is known by voice professionals as well as speech pathologists in the field of voice. Although there are straws used for voice on the market, VocalSTRAW is the first tool of its kind. Using a stainless-steel tube with five engineered holes, the singer or voice patient simply places an insert inside it to block off these holes and increase the difficulty of the instrument. VocalSTRAW uses Semi Occluded Vocal Tract (SOVT) to help posture the vocal folds correctly. The SOVT exercises provided increase the resistance in the throat when voicing is produced against restriction air flow. By singing or voicing through VocalSTRAW, back pressure is created against the vocal folds helping them to vibrate with less effort, to expand pitch range, assist in breath management and position the vibrating folds for the most efficient use. VocalSTRAW is used by vocal coaches and professional singers. Singers use it to warm-up or exercise their voices. It is also used by speech pathologists with voice disordered patients suffering from vocal fatigue or misuse of the voice. VocalSTRAW includes two inserts to systematically control the resistance. One has a closed end (black) and the other is open (red). VocalSTRAW comes with a cleaning brush, a case, a wrist lanyard and a list of exercises for the clinician to prescribe in frequency and duration.
